Hold onto your Mojo Dojo Casa Houses, people, because Ryan Gosling is officially trading in his rollerblades for a rocket ship, and we are so here for it. The one and only Ken himself graced the stage at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas this October, and he didn't just come to look devastatingly handsome in a perfectly tailored suit (which he did, obviously). No, he came to drop a bombshell of a movie announcement that has the entire internet buzzing.
Get ready for Project Hail Mary.
That’s right. Ryan Gosling, our favorite Hollywood heartthrob and Oscar nominee, is starring in and producing the film adaptation of the bestselling sci fi novel by Andy Weir. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the genius who wrote The Martian. You know, the little movie that starred Matt Damon and was a massive, massive hit? Yeah, that guy.
This is not a drill. This is happening.
Spilling the Galactic Tea at CinemaCon
CinemaCon is basically the Super Bowl for movie theater owners and Hollywood studios, where they show off their biggest and most exciting upcoming films. And let me tell you, the buzz coming out of the MGM panel was absolutely electric.
Sources inside the exclusive event said you could hear a pin drop when Gosling took the stage. He was his usual charming, effortlessly cool self, but he was also seriously passionate when talking about Project Hail Mary. He didn't just show up to read a teleprompter; he is a producer on this thing. This is his baby.
He described the new movie as “insanely ambitious,” and when a star who has been in everything from epic romances like The Notebook to visually stunning sci fi like Blade Runner 2049 says a project is ambitious, you listen.
“This story is a ride like no other,” Gosling reportedly told the packed audience. “It’s about science, it’s about discovery, but at its heart, it’s about humanity and what we’re capable of when we work together. It’s a massive undertaking, and it’s insanely ambitious, but that’s what makes it so exciting.”

Project Hail Mary follows an astronaut, Ryland Grace (played by Gosling, squeal!), who wakes up on a spaceship deep in the cosmos with no memory of who he is or how he got there. His two crewmates are dead, and he soon realizes he is humanity's last hope for survival. A sun-eating microbe is threatening to plunge Earth into a new ice age, and he was sent on a one way mission to find a solution.
It’s an intense, mind-bending sci fi thriller that’s also full of heart, humor, and some seriously cool science. Think The Martian but with even higher stakes and a mystery that will keep you on the absolute edge of your seat. It’s the perfect vehicle for an actor with Gosling's incredible range. He can do comedy, he can do drama, and he can definitely do saving the world.
