Stop EVERYTHING you are doing right now! Peacock just dropped the first official trailer for its new spy thriller Ponies and you guys we are not okay. Our forever queen and Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke is back on our screens and she is serving a whole new vibe that is giving us life. Forget the dragons and the platinum blonde braids because Clarke is diving headfirst into the icy paranoia of the Cold War and she looks absolutely iconic doing it.
Mark your calendars babes because this is going to be your next TV obsession. The highly anticipated series Ponies is set to premiere exclusively on Peacock on January 15 2026 and this first look has us counting down the seconds.
So what is all the tea? The trailer throws us straight into the heart of 1976 Moscow a city buzzing with tension and secrets. The whole aesthetic is pure 70s glam meets gritty espionage. We’re talking flickering neon signs snowy streets shadowy figures in long coats and the constant feeling that someone is always watching. And right in the middle of this chaos is Clarke as Bea a young woman who looks completely out of her depth which is exactly the point.
The trailer opens with Bea looking wide eyed and nervous clearly a fish out of water in the intimidating Soviet capital. But honey this is no damsel in distress. We quickly learn that Bea has been recruited by the CIA for a top secret and super dangerous mission. Her code name? A “pony.”
So what’s a “pony” you ask? Get this. In the shadowy world of Cold War espionage a pony was a civilian often a young woman with no official ties to the government used to carry or exchange sensitive packages and information. They were chosen because they were unassuming and could move under the radar unlike seasoned agents who the KGB would have their eyes on. It was a deadly game of cat and mouse and Bea has been thrown into the deep end. We are literally screaming at the screen watching her navigate tense handoffs and suspicious stares from stone faced officials. Emilia Clarke perfectly captures that mix of terror and fierce determination. One minute she is a scared girl and the next she has this fire in her eyes that tells you she is not going down without a fight.
And can we talk about this cast for a second? As if Emilia Clarke wasn't enough to get us hooked the series also stars the incredible Haley Lu Richardson. Yes you heard that right. The White Lotus star is joining the Moscow madness and we are so here for this dynamic duo. The trailer gives us a few tantalizing glimpses of Richardson's character who seems to be a more seasoned player in this dangerous world. Is she a friend or foe to Bea? A fellow agent or a rival? The chemistry between Clarke and Richardson is already electric and we are living for the potential drama. Will they be besties taking down the KGB or is there some major frenemy energy brewing under the surface? We need answers now.
Beyond the heart pounding plot the visuals of Ponies are just stunning. The fashion is a whole character in itself. We are talking fabulous fur collars chic trench coats wide leg pants and killer boots that could probably conceal a microfilm or two. The creative team has clearly nailed the 1970s aesthetic creating a world that feels both authentically vintage and incredibly stylish. It has the high stakes tension of The Americans mixed with the moody glam of The Queen's Gambit.
This trailer has given us everything we could want from a new spy thriller. There is action intrigue betrayal and two of Hollywood's most exciting leading ladies at the top of their game. The central mystery of Bea’s mission and whether this ordinary woman can survive in an extraordinary world of spies is beyond compelling.
So get your Peacock subscription ready because Ponies is coming in hot. This is going to be the show everyone is talking about in 2026. The combination of Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson in a high stakes Cold War drama set in 1970s Moscow is a recipe for prestige television. We are already obsessed and honestly January 15 2026 cannot come soon enough. For now we will just be watching this mind blowing trailer on repeat.
