Peaky Blinders icon Cillian Murphy reveals eclectic playlist to celebrate spring season

Hold onto your flat caps, Peaky fans — Cillian Murphy is officially in his playlist era, and it's giving serious spring vibes.

The elusive Irish heartthrob, best known for his dark, brooding role as Tommy Shelby in the cult BBC hit Peaky Blinders, is showing fans a whole new side of himself this season. Cillian Murphy just dropped an eclectic, mood-lifting playlist designed to welcome spring with the perfect mix of sunshine and soul — and we are obsessed.

Known for keeping his private life as buttoned-up as a Shelby family secret, Murphy has recently become more vocal about his passions outside of acting. And surprise: music has always been front and center.

"Music has the power to completely shift your perspective," Murphy recently told BBC 6 Music. "Spring is when everything feels like it’s starting over. It’s renewal, it’s chaos, it’s beauty — and I wanted this playlist to feel like all of that."

The playlist, which he curated himself, is a breathtaking blend of indie gems, ambient electronic grooves, vintage rock, and introspective singer-songwriter vibes. Think less razor blade-in-the-cap energy, and more sonic awakening in a sunlit field.

So what’s on Cillian Murphy’s spring playlist?

The actor kicks things off with the ethereal tones of Brian Eno, followed by genre-blurring tracks from artists like Rosalía, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and Radiohead. There’s a rawness here that feels very on-brand for the actor's taste — broody, philosophical, and always effortlessly cool.

But don’t be fooled — this isn't a one-note melancholy mix. Murphy surprises fans with upbeat tracks from Tame Impala and even a dash of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, which he calls “necessary for the soul, especially when the sun starts shining in Ireland — which is rare."

Fans online are living for it.

“Tommy Shelby listens to Rosalía? I wasn’t ready,” one user tweeted, alongside a crying emoji. Another wrote, “Cillian Murphy’s playlist feels like spring is hugging me slowly while reminding me life is fleeting.”

Streaming platforms are also jumping on the Cillian train. Spotify has already added the “Cillian’s Spring Awakening” playlist to its Trending Curator Picks, sparking waves of fan-made versions.

This isn't the first time Murphy has flexed his musical chops. In addition to his acting career, he’s been a longtime radio presenter for BBC 6 Music’s “Cillian Murphy’s Limited Edition,” where he’s known for curating sonic journeys that show off his wide taste and deep love for underground and classic tunes.

“I’ve always felt that characters emerge from sound,” he shared in one episode. “That’s maybe why I prepare roles with music before I even look at costumes or script notes.”

It’s a sentiment that makes sense considering the Oscar winner’s layered performances both on screen and stage — and now apparently in the DJ booth.

Cillian’s playlist also feels perfectly timed. With “Peaky Blinders: The Movie” officially in the works and Murphy experiencing a post-Oscar career renaissance, fans are eager for even the smallest peek into the man behind the iconic Shelby scowl.

But don't expect this to be the start of a flood of overshares.

“I won’t be launching a DJ career if that’s what you’re asking,” Murphy told a fan with a smirk at a recent Q&A. “But if people connect to what I’m listening to, that’s really lovely.”

And we couldn't agree more.

So whether you’re sipping your iced matcha in Central Park or catching golden hour along the Venice boardwalk, cue up Cillian Murphy’s spring playlist and channel your inner Shelby — only softer, warmer, and with a bit more synth.

You heard it here first: spring has a new soundtrack, and it’s curated by none other than the man who made flat caps iconic again.

Looking for the full tracklist? Head over to BBC Sounds or search “Cillian’s Spring Awakening” on Spotify for the official vibes.

You’re welcome.

Stay tuned to E! News-style updates for everything Murphy, Peaky Blinders, and the playlist mood you didn’t know you needed.
