According to Kendrick, the most important part of her morning wellness ritual is taking time to be still and quiet her mind. Every day without fail, she sits in silent meditation for 10 to 15 minutes.

“I know it sounds woo-woo LA hippie nonsense!” she joked. “But meditation truly changed my life. It grounds me, reduces my anxiety, and makes me feel so much more connected to myself.”

To get the most out of her meditation practice, Kendrick follows a few key tips:

  • Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. She likes meditating in her living room before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.
  • Set a timer so you don’t have to worry about watching the clock. Apps like Calm and Insight Timer have great guided meditations.
  • Start small – even two to five minutes of meditation can make a difference when you’re beginning. Gradually increase the time as you get more comfortable.
  • Focus on your breath to center and calm your mind when it starts to wander. Kendrick repeats a simple mantra like “I am enough” to recentrer herself.

“As much as I want to lounge in my PJs, my dogs need their walk!” Kendrick said. “I bundle up with a warm coat and we stroll around my neighborhood for 20 to 30 minutes. Being outside surrounded by nature energizes me.”

“My pups keep me totally present as we explore and sniff every bush. It’s a nice reminder to be more like my dogs – notice the little joys in front of you!” Kendrick remarked.

After working up an appetite on her brisk morning walk, Kendrick is ready for a wholesome, nutritious breakfast. She emphasizes starting her day with a balanced meal packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats to fuel her body.

“Breakfast is my time to get in loads of veggies!” Kendrick shared. Her go-to morning meals include:

  • Veggie omelet with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, and low-fat feta cheese
  • Overnight oats with almond milk, chia seeds, fruit, and almond butter
  • Avocado toast on whole grain bread with two poached eggs
  • Green smoothie with kale, banana, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, and almond milk

Kendrick also makes sure to incorporate coffee in moderation as part of her morning caffeine kick. She likes blending her breakfast smoothie with a shot of espresso.

“I know, I’m such a walking millennial cliché with my green smoothies and hipster coffee drinks,” she joked. “But it’s my tasty fuel, so I don’t care!”
